Dr Sarah Hellegren

Experience
Dr Hellegren is a Practitioner Counselling Psychologist and has experience of working with adults with complex as well as common mental health presentations across primary, secondary, private and hospital settings. She has experience of working with a range of therapeutic modalities, for example CBT, Psychodynamic, DBT, ACT and CFT, and is skilled and comfortable in working intergratively to create an appropriate fit based on individuals’ goals.
Dr Hellegren is highly experienced in working with conditions such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)/complex PTSD, depression, anxiety, OCD and personality disorders. She works with several trauma therapies such as trauma-focused CBT, NET and EMDR.

In addition to complex mental health difficulties, Dr Hellegren is skilled in working with common difficulties concerning self-esteem, assertiveness, relationships as well as helping people navigate through transitions or changes in their lives where feelings of emptiness or feeling “stuck” can affect peoples’ wellbeing. She has also several years of experience in working with people with severe physical illness. Dr Hellegren has also worked in a parental mental health service supporting struggling parents.
She has worked with both individuals and therapy groups and has worked with ethnically and culturally diverse people. Dr Hellegren has a keen interest in understanding how people’s cultural, social and personal factors shapes their everyday lives and aims to explore how these may impact their experienced difficulties. She applies an individual-driven treatment that is sensitive to a person’s identity in terms of culture, gender identity and sexual orientation.
Alongside her work with Mollart CBT Ltd., Dr Hellegren has worked as a qualified psychologist in the NHS for several years and has was appointed as service lead in a psycho-oncology service in London. She started her NHS career in secondary mental health care but has for the past few years worked in physical health as a specialist psychologist for people affected by cancer where she has been supporting patients and their loved ones through illness and loss.
Dr Hellegren wrote her doctoral thesis on complex PTSD to better understand and improve treatment for people suffering with this condition.
She is fluent in Swedish and is also used to working with interpreters.
Qualifications
Dr Hellegren holds a Doctorate in Counselling psychology.

Dr Hellegren is a registered Practitioner Psychologist with The Health Care Professional Council (HCPC), which monitors and regulates the counselling psychologists.
